Effect of N-dodecyl-N-(propylpiperydinium-3-sulfonate) on Usage Properties of Liquid Soaps for Sensitive Skin

Abstract: The aim of the study was to assess the effect of N-dodecyl-N-(propylpiperidinium-3-sulfonate) on the physico-chemical and functional properties of liquid soaps for sensitive skin. The studied materials consisted of originally formulated liquid soaps containing amphoteric surfactants including cocamidopropyl betaine and newly synthesized sulfobetaine in the following ratios: 0 : 0, 1 : 1, 0 : 2 and 2 : 0. The aim of study was to examine the effects of the additive on the surface tension of aqueous soap solution… Show more

“…In people suffering from dry skin, even a minimum exposure to an irritant may lead to skin irritation. In most cases, affected individuals develop red rough skin or small vesicles filled with serous fluid [ 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ]. Such cutaneous manifestations typically cause itching, burning, and in some cases also pain.…”

“…The subject of the research was the prototypes of bath liquids for children, developed on the basis of the literature (Ananthapadmanabhan et al, ; Barel et al, ; Nikolovski et al, ; Walters et al, , ) and own experiences. Concerning aspects related to the safety of these types of preparations were analyzed in Klimaszewska et al (, , b, ). Formulation P1 is a reference liquid that does not contain marine collagen.…”

“…To reduce the irritation potential of cosmetics containing anionic surfactants in these types of products, mixtures of different surfactants, polymers, emollients, and hydrophobic substances are used (Bujak et al, , ; Draelos et al, ; Fevola et al, ; Klimaszewska et al, , , b; Seweryn, ; Seweryn and Bujak, ; Walters et al, ; Wasilewski et al, , b). Among natural polymers one can distinguish the proposed in the article Klimaszewska et al (Klimaszewska et al, ) marine collagen with various molecular weights.…”

“…The obtained results follow the results presented in the literature. For example, Klimaszewska et al in their work [ 22 ] proved that the addition of sulfobetaine-N-dodecyl-N-(propylpiperidinium-3-sulfonate) to liquid soaps resulted in a significant improvement of the safety of liquid soaps. The zein number values were reduced by about 16–19% compared to the reference sample.…”
