Effect of Metal Ions on the Structures of Coordination Polymers Based on Biphenyl‐2,2′,4,4′‐Tetracarboxylate

Abstract: Two new coordination polymers, {[Cd 2 (btc)(2,2'-bpy) 2 ]·H 2 O} n (1) and [Zn 2 (btc)(2,2'-bpy)(H 2 O)] n (2) (H 4 btc = biphenyl-2,2',4,4'-tetracarboxylic acid, 2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), were synthesized hydrothermally under similar conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, TGA, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In complexes 1 and 2, the (btc) 4ligand acts as connectors to link metal ions to give a 2D bilayer network of 1 and a 3D metal-organic framework of 2, respec-

“…Colorless block crystals were obtained in a yield of 48% (based on Mn). carboxylate groups may be completely or partially deprotonated to induce versatile coordination modes and the rotation of the formal C-C single bond between phenyl rings to generate different conformations [3,4]. As a typical multicarboxylate biphenyl-type ligand, H 6 L has been employed to construct the porous metal-organic frameworks MOFs by coordinating with ds-, d-and f-block elements, such as Cu(II) [5], Zn(II) [6], Eu(III) [7] and so on.…”

“…Therefore, the viscosity of DiPHAM aqueous solutions is increased in a way that enhances the hydrophobic association effect. It has been reported that metal ions with different charge numbers have different effects on polymers in aqueous solutions [32,33]. In aqueous solution, Na + and K + are the most common monovalent ions, and their concentration is often relatively high.…”
