Effect of IL-1β and IL-1RN polymorphisms in carcinogenesis of the gastric mucosa in patients infected withHelicobacter pyloriin Algeria

Abstract: BackgroundInfection with Helicobacter pylori is considered a potential risk of developing gastric cancer in association with contributing host genetic factor. IL-1β and IL-1RN polymorphisms appear to maintain and promote Helicobacter pylori infection and to stimulate neoplastic growth of the gastric mucosa. Objective and methodsIn order to elucidate the effect of these polymorphisms in combination with gastric cancer in a population from northwestern Algeria, a case-control study was carried out on 79 patients … Show more

“…IL1-β and IL-1RN have a lot of functionally related polymorphism which is associated with the secretion of IL1-β. Existence of IL-1β and IL-1RN polymorphisms with H. pylori infection has been shown to provide the progression of chronic atrophic gastritis and GC in an Algerian population[ 89 ]. To date, advancements of research have proved the importance of SNP in showing individual specific variations of gene aberrations.…”

“…Similarly, C/C genotypes may or may not be associated with a higher risk of lung cancer, depending on the studies [ 36 , 37 ]. IL1B-511T carriers, suggesting higher expression of IL1B, present a higher risk of developing gastric cancer [ 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 ], or not [ 46 ]. IL1B-511T carriers present a higher risk of developing cervical cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, or chronic myeloid leukemia [ 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 ].…”
