Effect ofAntrodiacamphorataon Inflammatory Arterial Thrombosis-Mediated Platelet Activation: The Pivotal Role of Protein Kinase C

Abstract: Antrodia camphorata is a rare Taiwanese medicinal mushroom. Antrodia camphorata extract has been reported to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammation, antimetastasis, and anticancer activities and plays a role in liver fibrosis, vasorelaxation, and immunomodulation. Critical vascular inflammation leads to vascular dysfunction and cardiovascular diseases, including abdominal aortic aneurysms, hypertension, and atherosclerosis. Platelet activation plays a crucial role in intravascular thrombosis, which is involved… Show more

“…Though this observation spanned only a short period, the finding may imply an association between AC and its platelet-lowering effect in patients with lung or gastric cancer. Most research has focused on the antiplatelet activity of AC as a potential therapeutic agent for treating thromboembolic disorders [ 43 , 44 ]. However, no definitive proof demonstrates that AC interferes with the processes of platelet production, destruction, and pooling.…”

“…Chang was found to significantly decrease platelet aggregation and PKC phosphorylation in platelets activated in phorbol-12, 13-dibutyrate (PDBu) at concentrations of 56—224 μg/ml. Furthermore, polysaccharides inhibited the PKC and Akt pathways during collagen-induced calcium (Ca 2+ ) mobilization ( Lu et al, 2014 ). The authors suggested that oral administration of these mushroom polysaccharides prevented several glucose-induced vascular dysfunctions and inhibited PKC activation, which suggests that mushroom polysaccharides might be an alternative source of antioxidants to treat hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress.…”
