Effect of Halopriming along with Hydropriming on Germination of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Seeds

Abstract: Biotic and abiotic stress effects the crop yield badly every year. In the abiotic factors the drought, heat and salinity are the major stress for crops which are cultivated in Pakistan. Cultivated area are decreasing rapidly because the construction of new buildings, towns and population food demand increasing. There is only one way to fulfill the requirements of population by development stress tolerance genotypes. Two different varieties of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. with AABBDD genome and 6x= 42) i.e. Fais… Show more

“…Primed rice seedlings had increased catalase, ascorbate peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities and low lipid peroxidation, which are important factors in the plant's water deficit resistance (Ali et al 2022a). Seed priming stimulates pre-germination processes in rice, wheat and maize, resulting in faster germination and seedling emergence (Habib et al 2020;Ayed et al 2021;Arif et al).…”

“…Seed priming reduces the endosperm resistance, nurtures the developing embryos, and repairs membranes during imbibition (Pagano et al 2017). Seed priming priming have been widely used to enhance abiotic stress tolerance during dehydration or soaking steps and regulate physiobiochemical processes in plants (Ali et al 2021a;Arif et al). Various methods of seed pre-soaking were utilized to promote essential pre-germination metabolic processes and seedling growth.…”

“…Reduced seedling emergence causes an uneven establishment of the stand that results in crop yield reduction. In this context, several studies show that pre-treatment of seeds with different products is a simple and economical approach to improve plant tolerance to salt stress (Andrade and Laurentin, 2015;Mekawy et al, 2018;Samsampour et al, 2018;Silva et al, 2018;Silva et al, 2019;Arif et al, 2019;Wu et al, 2019;Feghhenabi et al, 2020).…”
