Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a new tuber crop grown in Greece. It constitutes an innovative dietary component for both humans and animals, due to its nutritional properties. The cultivation of sweet potato focuses on the growth of both tubers and plants. Nitrogen is considered an essential element for almost all crops. This study set out to compare the effect of nitrogen inhibitors on yield components of sweet potato. In the literature, it is stated that in sweet potato cultivation nitrogen mainly affects the plants’ growth such as the tuber's yield and some quality characteristics such as dry matter and protein content. To furthermore explore this particular area, field experiments took place in West Greece, during the years 2018 and 2019. Several urea combination treatments were used in the experimental process. The treatments were urea (46-0-0), urea with urease inhibitor (UI), urea with nitrification inhibitor (NI), urea with double inhibitors (UI + NI) and control (without fertilizer) in a randomised complete block design. Leaf area index (LAI) was significantly affected by the fertilizer marking the highest value of 5.35 under urea + UI + NI treatment. Marketable yield was profoundly affected by the fertilizer in the experimental years and ranged from 18,180 to 23,230 Kg · ha−1 whereas non-marketable yield was not affected by the fertilizer. A considerable impact of fertilizers was noticed on yield where the highest value was 30,923 Kg · ha−1 under urea + NI + UI treatment. The percentage of nitrogen on tubers and upper parts was significantly affected by the fertilizers. Nitrogen markers, such as nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), nitrogen harvest index and nitrogen agronomic efficiency (NAE), were used to evaluate nitrogen release. A significant positive correlation was noticed between marketable yield and NUE (0.774). Also, the significant increase in yield showed a positive correlation with NAE (0.727). For yield components of sweet potato, the highest values were observed in urea with double inhibitors treatment in both experimental years.

At Agricultural Research Station Farm, Giza Governorate, Egypt, two field experiments were carried out during two successive winter seasons of 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 to study the effect of nitrogen (0, 90, 120 and 150 kg fed -1 .), potassium (0, 72 and 96 kg K 2 O fed -1 ) fertilizer rates and foliar application of boron in sthe form of H 3 BO 3 (0 and 100 ppm) as well as their interactions on potato yield and its quality (Solanum tuberosum L.) cv. Spunta cultivar. A split-split-plot system in a randomized complete blocks design with three replicates was used in this respect. The obtained results indicated that significant increase in no. of tubers/plant, average tuber weight (g) and tuber yield was observed with 150 kg N fed -1 over control. Increase in tuber yield with 96 kg K 2 O fed -1 was statistically significant compared to other treatments. The quality parameters like dry matter, specific gravity, total carbohydrate, reducing sugar and starch contents were improved with both nitrogen and K application. Spraying potato plants with boron at a rate of 100 ppm significantly increased yield and its components as well as quality of tubers. Interaction treatments among different rates of nitrogen, potassium fertilization and boron foliar application were significant on potato yield and quality. In general, the best interaction treatment among different rates of nitrogen, potassium fertilization and foliar application of boron was fertilization with 150 kg N fed -1 in the form of ammonium sulphate, 96 kg K 2 O fed -1 in the form potassium sulphate and foliar application of boron to improve both yield and quality of potato crop as compared with other treatments.

Developing healthy plants is necessary for maximum growth and this requires all essential nutrients to be supplied at optimal rates. So, two field experiments were conducted in a calcareous soil at Nubaria Agricultural Research Station, El-behera governorate, Egypt (Latitude 30 o 54' 48.220" N, Longitude 29 o 51' 50.634" E), during 2014/015 and 2015/016 winter seasons to assess the effect of potassium (K 2 SO 4) and magnesium (MgSO 4 7H 2 O) fertilizers applied separately or in combination on yield and some qualitative parameters of potato (cv. Alpha) tubers. The two experiments were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replicates including fifteen treatments as follows: 0, 24 and 48 kg K 2 O fed-1 and 0, 5, 10 & 15 kg Mg fed-1. The last three treatments contained 2.5, 5 & 7.5 kg Mg fed-1 combined with 24 kg K 2 O fed-1 plus foliar application of 1% K 2 O + 0.63 % Mg. The obtained results show that the combination of both nutrients (K and Mg) as 24 kg K 2 O fed-1 plus 15 kg Mg fed-1 significantly increased number of tubers plant-1 , tuber yield plant-1 , medium sized tuber yield (35-55mm) and total tuber yield as well as tuber quality i.e. total carbohydrate % & starch %, tuber dry weight and N, P, K & Mg uptake in tubers over the control (zero K and Mg fertilizers). On the other hand, the highest large sized tuber yield (>55mm) was obtained under the treatment received 48 kg K 2 O fed-1 combined with 5 kg Mg fed-1 which did not differ significantly from treatment received 24 kg K 2 O fed-1 plus 7.5 kg Mg fed-1 accompanied by foliar spray of 1% K 2 O + 0.63 % Mg, whereas soil application of (24 kg K 2 O fed-1 plus 5 kg Mg fed-1) or (24 kg K 2 O fed-1 plus 7.5 kg Mg fed-1) accompanied by foliar spray of 1% K 2 O + 0.63% Mg recorded higher significant increases in leaf N content and dry matter % of tubers relative to control treatment with no significant difference between the two treatments. The highest values of P and K content in leaves were obtained when plants were treated with 48 kg K 2 O fed-1 solely, while applying 15 kg Mg fed-1 alone gave the highest significant value of Mg content in potato leaves.
