Evaluation of yield and nitrogen utilisation with urease and nitrification inhibitors in sweet potato crop (Ipomoea batatas L.)

Abstract: Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a new tuber crop grown in Greece. It constitutes an innovative dietary component for both humans and animals, due to its nutritional properties. The cultivation of sweet potato focuses on the growth of both tubers and plants. Nitrogen is considered an essential element for almost all crops. This study set out to compare the effect of nitrogen inhibitors on yield components of sweet potato. In the literature, it is stated that in sweet potato cultivation nitrogen mainly affe… Show more

“…Despite being considered as a rustic crop, the sweet potato uptakes large amounts of nutrients from the soil, and nitrogen (N) is the second nutrient most taken up by this root crop (Fernandes et al 2020). In sweet potato, N influences the production and distribution of biomass in the plants and improves the yield of the harvested storage roots (Duan et al 2019;Kakabouki et al 2020).…”

“…There was a significant positive correlation between NAE and increased yield (0.727). The highest correlation value was found in the relationship between urea and inhibitors in both trial periods' sweet potato yield component [39]. Humic acid Urea fertilizer's application increased Nitrogen use efficiency from 33.5 to 44.8 percent, significantly increasing the sweet potato tubers' yield [40].…”

“…It can alleviate nutritional deficiencies, increase plant vigour, and improve nutrient uptake efficiency results in plant vigour. Nitrogen augments sweet potato biomass and root yield [10,11] Micronutrients are essential for various plant functions. Application of micronutrients lead to superior plant performance and enhancing marketable tuber output [12].…”
