Effect of combined interval training on the cardiorespiratory fitness in heart failure patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Background: The combination of interval training and resistance training has showed interesting results in chronic heart failure patients, corroborating the benefits of physiological adaptations of both protocols. Objective: To evaluate the effect of the combination of interval training and resistance training program when compared to interval training alone and/or without intervention group on cardiorespiratory fitness in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods: We search MEDLINE via PubMed, ScienceDirec… Show more

“… 14 It has been extensively used in a wide range of populations, such as obese adults and other vulnerable subjects. 15 16 There is evidence to support that AIT, or HITT, is safe, time-efficient, and superior to traditional aerobic training for improving aerobic capacity, vascular function, and blood biomarkers. 17 18 Supervised training at centers is commonly used to examine the effects of AIT or HIIT programs in SDB patients found to improve sleep indices and subjective sleep disorders.…”

“… 19 20 However, there have been many restrictions to performing such center-based training programs with individual supervision due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. 21 Therefore, home-based AIT combined with resistance training (RT) was chosen in this study to gain the maximum effect 16 in adults with obesity and SDB.…”

“…Data in the last two decades suggests high intensity interval training (HIIT) to induce at least comparable benefits to continuous regimes and also provides evidence on the benefits of combined aerobic and resistance exercise training protocols in CHF patients [32][33][34][35][36][37][38]. Combined regimes have been shown to induce additional benefits in terms of strength and aerobic variables [28,[39][40][41][42], and therefore, resistance/strength training has been established as core component of cardiac rehabilitation in chronic heart failure [43][44][45][46]. However, extending previous findings regarding the combination of HIIT and resistance regimes in heart failure, and adding new knowledge in literature, would be useful for the establishment of individualized exercise training programs.…”

“…Thus the training method becomes a central role to improve various aspects of the soccer game [24], [25]. In the world of football, there are many methods that can be used to achieve a desired goal, for example the stop -Freeze training method, coaching on the run, interval coaching, design rules, ideal, broken t-sprint 100 yards t-sprints and zigzag running [26], [27]. Each training method has its own purpose and function, for example t-sprints and zigzag running to increase agility and speed in soccer athletes [19], [28].…”
