Effect of belly dancing on urinary incontinence-related muscles and vaginal pressure in middle-aged women

Abstract: [Purpose] This study examined the effect of belly dancing on the urinary incontinence-related muscles and vaginal pressure in middle-aged women to provide fundamental data for establishing an effective training program focusing on mitigating and preventing urinary incontinence. [Subjects and Methods] The subjects included 24 middle-aged women, who have been diagnosed with urinary incontinence. “…In a previous study, dance training was found to significantly improve symptoms in patients with fibromyalgia, including reduced pain and improved functional capacity, QoL, and self-esteem ( 27 ). An et al confirmed that belly dancing can improve the clinical symptoms of middle-aged women with urinary incontinence by increasing the vaginal pressure and strengthening the adductor muscle ( 28 ). Moreover, it is reported that an intervention involving pelvic muscle exercise can improve the symptoms of urinary incontinence by increasing the maximum pressure and duration of the PFM contraction ( 29 ).…”

“…Neste mesmo contexto, estudo realizado na Coréia do Sul [24] examinou o efeito de um programa de DV sobre os músculos do AP em relação à IU e à pressão vaginal em mulheres de meia-idade. O resultado indicou que 12 semanas de intervenção aumentou significativamente a pressão máxima da contração muscular do AP.…”
