“…These results supported that the oral intake of A. blazei Murill b-glucan exhibited an antiinflammatory effect in human in vivo (Johnson et al, 2012). In-depth insights in the anti-inflammatory activity of b-glucans could be gained by carrying out the doubleblind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial of human.…”

“…Regulatory effects on blood granulocytes and monocytes (i.e., increased frequency or reduction of proinflammatory cytokine and ROS production) have been described after oral administration of extracts from the higher Basidiomycetes Grifola frondosa and Agaricus blazei Murill (AbM, AndoSan) [66,67]. However, although these extracts are characterized by a high content of β-glucan, the specific contribution of the glucan fraction to the immunomodulatory activity has not been demonstrated in these studies [66,67]. Finally, β-glucan purified from the cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Imuneks) was reported to reduce some immunopathogenic processes characterizing subjects with allergic rhinitis [69].…”

“…antibiotics after stem cell infusion, (5) time to new treatment, (6) overall survival, and (7) quality of life. The basis for the sample size ( n = 40) was the results of two earlier studies showing significant changes in the levels of cytokines in healthy volunteers ( n = 14) [ 20 ] and in patients with ulcerative colitis ( n = 10) and Crohn's disease ( n = 11) [ 21 ] after intake of AndoSan. The data were collected by the principal investigator and stored at a research file at the server of Oslo University Hospital.…”

“…In contrast, in patients with chronic hepatitis C receiving treatment with AndoSan, genes involved in apoptosis and cell proliferation were found to be upregulated but not genes related to immune function [ 19 ]. Oral intake of AndoSan was found to have an immunosuppressive effect both in healthy volunteers [ 20 ] and in patients with inflammatory bowel disease [ 21 ]. The reason for the difference between in vitro and in vivo effect on immune function may possibly be due to differential absorption from the gut of substances with immunomodulating effects [ 20 ].…”
