Effect of Adiponectin on Kidney Crystal Formation in Metabolic Syndrome Model Mice via Inhibition of Inflammation and Apoptosis

Abstract: The aims of the present study were to elucidate a possible mechanism of kidney crystal formation by using a metabolic syndrome (MetS) mouse model and to assess the effectiveness of adiponectin treatment for the prevention of kidney crystals. Further, we performed genome-wide expression analyses for investigating novel genetic environmental changes. Wild-type (+/+) mice showed no kidney crystal formation, whereas ob/ob mice showed crystal depositions in their renal tubules. However, this deposition was remarkab… Show more

“…Interestingly, renal Mws sorted from op/op mice expressed lower levels of stone-and M2-related genes based on microarray analysis. Some genes listed in Figure 10A (such as Aqp1, Aurka, and Slc34a1) inhibit the development of renal stones, 53,54 suggesting that CSF-1 deficiency resulted in severely impaired defense against crystal formation in Mws. hi M2-like Mws by CSF-1 treatment reduced renal crystal deposition and CaOx crystal formation.…”

“…Another animal model study by Fujii et al . showed that adiponectin inhibited the kidney crystal formation in Mets model mice through inhibition of inflammation and apoptosis . These results are encouraging and helpful for designing the clinical studies evaluating the implication of lipid metabolism disturbances in nephrolithiasis, as well as finding new possible targets to prevent stone recurrence.…”
