Effect of 3D Printing Parameters on the Tensile Strength of Products

Abstract: 3D printing is a promising digital manufacturing technique that manufactures product parts in a layer fashion. Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is a widely used 3D printing technique that produces components by heating, extruding, and depositing the filaments of thermoplastic polymers. Meanwhile, the properties of FDM-produced parts are significantly influenced by process parameters. These process parameters have different advantages that need to be investigated. This paper examines the effect of some process p… Show more

“…In a study conducted in FDM method, by using ABS material, layer thickness, build orientation, and filling structure and occupancy rate parameters were examined and the effect of process parameters on compressive strength were optimized. Result of the study, it was stated that the 3D printed product with 80% occupancy rate, gryoid filling structure and 90° built orientation parameters gave very close results to the fully filled product [8].…”

“…Based on the preliminary study (Sharma et al , 2022) and literature review, four input printing parameters were chosen with a selection of five levels for each parameter, as depicted in Table 1. In the previously reported research (Son et al , 2020), infill density has been taken to be in the range of 50–70%. In the statement, “has been selected” is coming two times so the corrected statement should be "Depending on the parameter range offered by the 3D printer used in this study, an infill density ranging from 20% to 100% has been selected.…”

“…Some studies (Chacón et al , 2017; Miazio, 2019; Tao et al , 2020; Wang et al , 2017) depicted a significant improvement in mechanical properties of PLA with a reduction in printing speed and an increase in part bed temperature. On studying the effect of infill pattern on tensile strength of PLA, concentric pattern with minimum voids resulted in maximum tensile strength, followed by 3D honeycomb, honeycomb and rectilinear patterns (Son et al , 2020). The lowered values of air gap and increase in infill density resulted in improved diffusion between adjacent rasters and layers, respectively (Aloyaydi et al , 2019; Burge et al , 2020; Jatti et al , 2019; Son et al , 2020; Sood et al , 2010).…”

“…Tiga parameter proses digunakan dalam penelitian ini, temasuk jenis filamen, infill density, dan infill pattern. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian kuat tarik spesimen uji, bahwa faktor yang paling berpengaruh adalah infill pattern, penelitian ini menggunakan Full Factorial [13]. Penelitian terhadap filamen PLA dengan pengaturan bed temperature 60°C, nozzle temperature 200°C, dan printing speed 80 mm/s.…”
