This research aims to identify the profile and factors associated with the perception of Brazilianconsumers regarding food waste. The chosen technique was survey research, with the application ofa structured online and self-administered questionnaire with 664 Brazilian consumers. Descriptivestatistics were calculated and multivariate statistical techniques, such as factor analysis and multiplelinear regression. Five factors have different affirmations on assessing and dealing with the food,besides the behavior concerning food and its respective waste. The factor regarding education wasincluded in the survey, adapted from Richter (2017), which generated this factor. This is an additionalresult when applied to the Brazilian context. The waste is associated with behavioral factors. One ofthe main contributions was to present the use of metrics, which provide comparisons betweendifferent themes of food waste, providing proposals for the public policies and guidelines forminimizing this problem. The study helps with discussions based on a relevant topic for humanity andcontemplating the UN SDGs through a national diagnosis. Academics, public, private, and non-profitorganizations have increasingly brought the spotlight onto food waste. Implications of this study pointto the need for effective policies turned to mitigate food waste.

Research background: The world has been fighting the new pandemic caused by COVID-19 since March 2020. The subsequent restrictions on economic activity resulted in a supply shock, accompanied by a supply chain disruption, job layoffs, reduced work time and wages and decreased disposable incomes and taxes, which led to a demand shock. However, whether a close link exists between the number of confirmed cases, deaths and economic indicators during the COVID-19 pandemic remains uncertain. Purpose of the article: The current study aims to analyse the impact of the number of infections and deaths on economic growth and labour market indicators in the member states of the European Union. Methods: To achieve the main research goal, we conduct a panel data analysis on the quarterly data of 2020. Specifically, we developed three random-effects panel data econometric models to estimate the significance of infection and mortality rates for economic growth as well as employment and unemployment rates. Findings & value added: This study contributes to the existing literature by analysing the link between the infection and mortality rates of COVID-19 and selecting macro-economic indicators within the European Union. The results show that the infection rate is not a significant variable for economic growth and labour market indicators. However, an increase in the number of confirmed deaths has a significantly negative impact on the economy. Moreover, an increase in the mortality rate has a worse impact on the labour market than on economic growth in general. These results can serve as a theoretical basis for future research on the interconnections between pandemics and macro-economic indicators. The findings can also contribute to developing efficient policy instruments for mitigating the negative impact of pandemics in the future, thereby ensuring the cooperation of fiscal, monetary and health policy authorities.

O descarte de resíduos vem crescendo exponencialmente em vários países, exigindo mudanças comportamentais e de consumo das pessoas. O objetivo do artigo é investigar a percepção de brasileiros residentes nos Estados Unidos da América e em Portugal, quanto às mudanças comportamentais, à conscientização sobre o consumo, às diretrizes e práticas de descarte. A pesquisa é qualitativa, descritiva e exploratória, sendo realizadas análises documentais e entrevistas semiestruturada com doze imigrantes. Os resultados revelam que a cultura local, o descarte de resíduos, a observações das ações e a mudança de hábito ao morar no exterior são categorias que delineiam o comportamento e o consumo pró-ambiental dos indivíduos. O estudo contribui e aprofunda os conhecimentos sobre às teorias do comportamento sustentável, às legislações internacionais e o gerenciamento do descarte de resíduos, colaborando para o entendimento das mudanças de hábitos e práticas de consumo sustentáveis de imigrantes, frente à cultura e às regras de cada país.
