To evaluate methodologically (PRISMA) and report (AMSTAR-2) quality of systematic reviews regarding platelet rich plasma (PRP) as a method of tissue regeneration in dental procedures. in English or Spanish. The advanced search was performed using Boolean terms AND and OR. The quality of the SRs was evaluated with the PRISMA guidelines, and the methodological quality was evaluated with the checklist of the AMSTAR-2 tool. Result: Seventeen SRs were selected. From the selected articles, 11 were cataloged as of Very good quality, three as Good and three as Moderate. Regarding the methodological quality, two articles were classified as Critically Low, one as Low, 10 Moderate and four as High quality. Conclusion: Most SRs are of high quality regarding their report and methodology, and provide an accurate summary of the results of the primary studies available. However, there is a lower percentage of RS whose methodological and drafting deficiencies make their results and conclusions unreliable, and therefore, their clinical applicability is questionable, and offer a wrong clinical vision, which is not the best and safest therapeutic measure for patients and may compromise their well-being.Resumen: Evaluar la calidad metodológica (PRISMA) y del reporte (AMSTAR-2) de las revisiones sistemáticas en relación al plasma rico en plaquetas (PRP) como método de regeneración tisular en odontología. Material y Metodos: Se realizó una búsqueda de revisiones sistemáticas (RS) de PRP en las bases de datos PUBMED, EBSCO, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Lilacs, Epistemonikos, y complementada mediante revisión manual de bibliografía de los artículos seleccionados. Abarcando artículos publicados desde Enero de 2008 hasta Agosto de 2018, en idioma inglés o español. La búsqueda avanzada se realizó utilizando términos booleanos AND y OR. Las RS fueron evaluadas con pauta PRISMA la calidad del reporte, y con checklist de la herramienta AMSTAR-2 la calidad metodológica. Resultados: Fueron seleccionadas 17 RS. Los artículos seleccionados fueron catalogados con calidad del reporte Muy bueno 11 artículos, 3 como Buenos y 3 como Regulares. En relación a la calidad metodológica, 2 artículos fueron catalogados como Críticamente baja, 1 Baja, 10 Moderada y 4 alta calidad. Conclusión: La mayoría de las RS cuentan con calidad en su reporte y en su metodología, y proveen un resumen preciso de los resultados de los estudios primarios disponibles. Sin embargo, hay un porcentaje menor de RS cuyas deficiencias metodológicas y de redacción hacen no fidedignos sus resultados y conclusiones y, por tanto, su aplicabilidad clínica es cuestionable y puede formar un juicio clínico errado que no sea la mejor y más segura medida terapéutica para el paciente y comprometer su bienestar. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a blood component with a supraphysiologic concentration of platelets, usually obtained from the processing of autologous blood by different techniques, such as centrifugation and filtering. Despite the fact that strict recommendations on the most adequate techniques that should be employed for the production of PRP are still lacking, it is logical to assume that the type of method used for blood processing may determine the resulting concentration of platelet and other components, possibly impacting on its therapeutic potential. 1 The physiological rationale of the non-transfusion use of PRP relies on the high concentration of growth factors contained in platelets, such as the platelet derived-growth factor, the vascular endothelial growth factor and the fibroblast growth factor. 2 Several biological functions are attributed to these growth factors, including the proliferation of epithelial and mesenchymal cells, the stimulation of myoblasts and fibroblasts and angiogenesis. 3-5 Abstract Introduction: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a blood component therapy with a supraphysiological concentration of platelets derived from allogenic or, more commonly, autologous blood. PRP has been used in different non-transfusion indications because of its role in the promotion of tissue repair and healing, in fields such as Traumatology, Dermatology and Dentistry.Objective: To provide a synthesis of the efficacy of PRP for different clinical situations. Methods: Systematic searches were carried out in MEDLINE, Embase, CochraneLibrary and LILACS in July 2018 to identify systematic reviews (SRs) of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) focusing on PRP for non-transfusion use. Two authors independently screened all retrieved references in two stages (titles and abstracts at a first stage and full texts at a second stage). The methodological quality of SRs that met the eligibility criteria was appraised by AMSTAR 2. Conclusions were based on the most recent SRs with highest quality. Results:One thousand two hundred and forty references were retrieved. After checking the inclusion criteria, 29 SRs of RCTs related to three different fields (wound care, Orthopedics and Dentistry) were included. The results suggest the benefit of PRP for different clinical situations, such as diabetic wounds, acute lesions of musculoskeletal system, rotator cuff lesions, tendinopathies, knee and hip osteoarthritis, total knee arthroplasty, allogenic bone graft for dental implants and periodontal intrabony defects. Conclusion:There is low to moderate quality evidence supporting the efficacy of PRP for specific clinical situations. The low quality of the evidence limits the certainty of these findings. Well-planned and well-conducted RCTs are still needed to further assess the efficacy of PRP.

RESUMEN: El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar las tasas de fracaso de implantes que fueron colocados en conjunto con plasma rico en plaquetas (PRP) y sin él. Se analizaron las fichas de 90 pacientes a los cuales se les colocaron 297 implantes (145 implantes con PRP y 152 sin él). La tasa de fracaso general fue baja (4,04%), menor en los casos combinados con PRP (2,1%) que sin él (5,9%). Esta diferencia no fue estadísticamente significativa (p= 0,09). La reducción de riesgo absoluto de fracaso al utilizar PRP fue 0,038 y el riesgo relativo al comparar el uso o no de PRP fue 0,36. Al determinar la reducción de riesgo relativo, esta alcanzó un 64%. El número necesario a tratar fue de 26,3. Al parecer, el uso de PRP podría ser levemente beneficiosa, ya que clínicamente muestra una menor tasa de fracaso.
