The aim of the current study is to explore and evaluate the current status of massive open online courses (MOOCs) in the field of Engineering Education. In line with this aim, the study intends to identify and map the role of "MOOCs in engineering education research" through a review of empirical articles published in peer-reviewed journals indexed in the "Web of Science," "IEEE Xplore," "Scopus," "Science Direct," and the "ACM Digital Library" databases. Social network analysis, content analysis, and inferential-descriptive statistics were applied in the study. The study's findings indicate a growing trend in "MOOCs in engineering education research." Online virtual labs, social networks, flipped classroom strategy, active learning, small private online courses, and motivation are the key lodestar topics in "MOOCs in engineering education research" and engineering education researchers mostly employ practice-based and quantitative research approaches. Besides this, it was found that engineering education researchers use MOOCs for three main purposes: designing a domain-specific MOOC with unique features; developing a system/model for e-learning and MOOCs, or aiming to improve engineering education using interactive online technologies. The findings of the current study indicate that engineering education researchers primarily give importance to performance outcomes and motivation in learning, and try to increase the quality of engineering education through the use of MOOCs. Finally, the findings imply that the general discourse among the sampled articles is positive, and may be considered useful in the exploration of potential research into "MOOCs in engineering education research."

Major disasters typically impact large areas, cause considerable damages, and result in significant human and economic losses. The timely and accurate estimation of impacts and damages is essential to better understand disaster conditions and to support emergency response operations. Geo-information drawn from various sources at multi spatial-temporal scales can be used for disaster assessments through a synthesis of hazard, exposure, and post disaster information based on pertinent approaches. Along with the increased availability of open sourced data and cooperation initiatives, more global scale geo-information, including global land cover datasets, has been produced and can be integrated with other information for disaster dynamic damage assessment (e.g., impact estimation immediately after a disaster occurs, physical damage assessment during the emergency response stage, and comprehensive assessment following an emergency response). Residential areas and arable lands affected by the flood disaster occurring from July to August 2015 in Myanmar were assessed based on satellite images, GlobeLand30 data, and other global open sourced information as a study case. The results show that integrating global open geo-information could serve as a practical and efficient means of assessing damage resulting from major disasters worldwide, especially at the early emergency response stage.

Abstract-Software models play a significant role with the growth of software system development based on Model Driven Development (MDD) approach. Model transformations and compositions are the heart of MDD and allow the development of complex systems and their automated derivation. Moreover, software development of large and complex systems uses a collection of models, where model composition and decomposition are required. Various research studies have been done on specifying and executing MDD processes; however only a few of those have considered the validity of such transformations, thus safe composition and decomposition of models. This paper presents a general approach for model composition for the transformation from UML sequence diagrams to Coloured Petri Nets and validates the correctness of model composition using a mathematical proof. These transformations are based on formal rules, which have already been proven to be strongly consistent.
