Eczema and keratoconus.

Abstract: Aorto-iliac Occlusion-7ohnstone et al.- MEDICAL JOURNAL 977 no part in the genesis of this lactate, and infusion of A.C.D. bank blood had been stopped previously. The quantities of lactate and pyruvate circulating during the immediate post-operative period amount to 4 mEq/l. at maximum. No significant change occurs in hydrogen-ion concentrations as a result of these metabolites, and although the reason for their continued production is at present obscure they do not appear to be harmful per se. “…70 The question arises as to whether KC patients are more susceptible to adopting a CHAR that has a psychogenic basis, especially in light of reports of KC patients having unusual personality characteristics. [80][81][82][83] In contrast, a significant association between KC and eye rubbing was not found in either the studies of Owens and Gamble 33 or Millodot et al 30 The discrepancy may be accounted for by the level of eye rubbing, which is related to the association. 70 Alternatively the amount of dust in dry climates may induce frequent eye rubbing (KC patients and controls) concealing a possible association with keratoconus.…”

“…Apesar da associação com atopia ter sido cerca de 10% mais freqüente no grupo com hidropisia, não se detectou significado estatístico nesta diferença. A atopia foi constatada em 32% de cem casos de ceratocone estudados por Copeman (10) , e Rahi et al (11) relataram atopia em 35% dos casos de ceratocone. Grewal et al (12) em amostra de 22 casos de hidropisia em ectasias, encontraram em 95% história de alergia, e em 91% a ocorrência do hábito de coçar os olhos.…”

“…Copeman [2] has hypothesized that strong iterative eye rubbing might trigger KC. Bawazeer et al [6] further supported this mechanical trigger.…”

“…They affect several epithelia including the skin (atopic dermatitis, AD), the respiratory tract (asthma, allergic rhinitis) and the eye (allergic conjunctivitis). Atopic diseases, especially AD, have been associated with KC in a number of uncontrolled studies with conflicting data according to the type of patient recruitment [2,3,4,5,6,7] (table 1). …”
