Objetivo: Comparar as características clínicas e os resultados do tratamento cirúrgico entre casos com e sem hidropisia aguda, do total de 567 pacientes com ceratocone. A hidropisia aguda da córnea consiste num quadro de edema corneano súbito que ocorre em olhos com ectasia corneana, em decorrência de rupturas espontâneas da membrana de Descemet. A perda visual resultante é proporcional à opacidade cicatricial do estroma corneano. Na maioria dos casos a ceratoplastia penetrante é a melhor alternativa para a recuperação visual.Embora na literatura possamos encontrar muitos casos relatados de hidropisia aguda (1)(2)(3) , não existe nenhum trabalho correlacionando este evento às características clínicas do ceratocone. Neste estudo compararemos as características dos casos de hidropisia aguda, com as encontradas naqueles sem esta complicação do ceratocone.
