There are three challenges existing in the current certification process, which results in three challenges including high cost in fuel refinement, fuel-cost in certification testing, lack available testing condition and the acceptance criteria. If alternative fuel is considered as one of the engine replacement parts, and then the certification of alternative fuels can be achieved through compliance verification. This compliance verification method contain two logical relationships: the mapping from fuel to engine, the gap from petroleum-based aviation turbine fuel to drop-in fuel. For similar analogy to carry out parameterization, the system safety assessment reaches a series of critical parameters related to the engine safety and engine performance which provide the boundaries on the variation of critical parameters. This method is achieved by extracting safety criteria from the “history experience” of petroleum-based aviation turbine fuel in aero-engine and to predict the safety of alternative aviation fuels in aero-engine by “similar analogy”.
