Indonesia is rich in local wisdoms, including in fisheries management. Fisheries management by applying local wisdom is an effort to utilize fisheries resource based on traditional noble values designated to people’s welfare. Research aims to collect and analyse local wisdoms related to fisheries management in Indonesia, the concepts offered, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as efforts for their conservation. Method applied in this research is literature review, main articles collected from international and national journals, and other relevant resources as supportive data. Analysis on 24 articles show that there are 3 fisheries local wisdoms which have been researched the most: Panglima Laot-Adat Laot, kewang-sasi, and awig-awig. Panglima Laot in Aceh is considered to be the one that has strong concept and more advantages as compared to others. However, violations to its customary law still take places. Noted also that researches are not exploring the perspective of the people who are regulated by related local wisdoms. Efforts to conserve local wisdoms by building the capacity and integrating their values into formal law as management model is required. Increasing violations against Panglima Laot-Adat Laot customary law, thus, suggest research to explore people’s current perspective toward local wisdom.

Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) has eroded globally, particularly which related to ecology. Even though TEK has been recognized as crucial for a sustainable development perspective. This study aims to explore TEK of Orang Suku Laut (OSL) Konky Strait in Lingga about the utilization of mangrove ecosystem. Research area is Konky Strait which is a part of Lingga Regency, Riau Archipelago Province. Data was collecting by using document study, field study, in-depth interviews, meetings and group interviews, participatory and non-participatory observation techniques. There are at least eight species of flora and 17 species of fauna that are known by OSL in Konky Strait. Taxonomically, flora which has been utilized are classified in 6 families, while fauna consist of 15 families. The types of flora are generally utilized for firewood, building materials, fisheries infrastructure (fishing gear) and traditional medicine for health. While the whole fauna species used as food sources. Almost all mangrove flora parts are used such as trunk, branches, leaves, flowers, fruits, shoots, and roots. Business in the fisheries sector is the only business run by the duano tribes from their predecessors. Initially, the duano tribes was a cultural community whose lives moved according to the direction of the sea breeze and schools of fish. As the duano tribes community developed, they began to occupy an area to live permanently, build a family, and carry out business to meet the necessities of life. The business is offered by the duano tribe in the fisheries sector. The purpose of this study was to analyze the orientation of the fishery business carried out by the duano tribe based on social and culture. The research uses a survey with an explanatory research approach. The analysis technique uses quantitative and qualitative descriptive with as many as 54 respondents. The fishery business carried out by the duano tribe is still oriented to the subsystem, namely fishery products produced only to meet the family’s daily needs, so the category of duano fishermen is still classified as traditional fishermen. The categorization of duano fishermen is based on the use of fishing gear, utilization of labor, and productivity.
