Dual‐frequency circularly polarized antenna

Abstract: Spatial communication systems need antennas circularly polarized. In this article, we propose a new compact dual-frequency circularly polarized antenna. The two circular polarizations obtained in each frequency band are on opposite sense. This antenna is a patch of dimensions 36 ϫ 36 mm 2 , printed on duroid substrate. Left hand circular polarization and right hand circular polarization maximum gains are 6.46 dB at the low frequency and 7.14 dB at the high frequency. Theoretical total efficiency is about 91% i… Show more

“…The outer element has symmetrical truncations. For the top dual‐band element, both TM01 and TM03 are excited and circular polarisation is produced due to the truncations and slot arrangement [3, 5]. With proper adjustment of patch sizes, a wide frequency ratio is achieved.…”

“…Single‐layer single‐feed patch antennas for dual‐band circular polarisation were proposed by loading Y‐shaped or T‐shaped slots in a square patch [3] or coupled annular rings with asymmetric cross‐slots in the ground plane [4]. Furthermore, in [5], a single‐layer patch employing four slots and truncated corners was used to excite dual‐frequency dual‐sense circular polarisation. However, emerging multimode systems such as wireless fidelity (WiFi) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMax) demand circularly polarised antennas operating over more than two bands, which are widely disparate.…”

“…In the literature, various CP antenna designs have been suggested for multiband function . In [1], a dualband CP antenna was developed with two imbricating patches. However, the alignment of the two patches is difficult in this antenna design.…”

“…This solution is interesting but the thickness of the antenna is generally large [3]. The second technique, used in this article, consists in using a square patch on a single substrate layer, having rectangular slots etched in the metallization of the radiating element to produce dual‐band operation [4–6]. The technique uses in this kind of structure, presented in Ref.…”
