Does metformin play a role in the treatment of acne?

Abstract: Although a common condition, acne is a complex condition that involves chronic inflammation and hyperkeratosis of the hair follicles, increased sebum secretion, and colonization of Propionibacterium acnes. Metformin has been found to play a role in acne, particularly hormonal acne. Our goal is to review the relevant studies and their results following metformin administration in patients with acne.
