Diversity in Statistical Research Techniques: An Analysis of Refereed Research Articles in theJournal of Travel & Tourism MarketingBetween 1992 and 2010

Abstract: This article reports the findings of a study that analyzes the statistical methods used in articles published in the Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing (JTTM) in the period 1992-2010. A content analysis of 462 articles identified 68 different statistical methods, grouped into 17 categories.Factor analysis and ANOVA/MANOVA were the most commonly used methods, following descriptive statistics. There was a substantial increase in the use of structural equation modeling (SEM) in recently published papers. While… Show more

“…In previous studies [42], [44], the factors that influence e-business difusion have been examined predominantly using traditional statistical methods. Most of these methods (such as the Structural Equation Modeling -SEM and the Partial Least Squares Path Modeling -PLSPM) have their own inbuilt model assumptions and pre-defined underlying relationships between dependent and independent variables.…”

“…Scholars have carried out analyses on a number of variables from journal characteristics to the characteristics of articles and authors. These reviews cover factors such as statistical techniques (Lee and Law, 2012), subject areas (Lu and Nepal, 2009; Zhong et al., 2015), authorship (McKercher, 2007; Zhao and Ritchie, 2007; Zhong et al., 2015), and citations (McKercher, 2008). Citation frequency is considered positively related to the influence of a journal (Law and Van der Veen, 2008) or an author, as well as to the quality of articles published (McKercher, 2008).…”
