1. Herbivorous insects can be classified into several trophic guilds with different levels of specialisation on their host plants, which may influence the topological structure of their trophic networks. The present study tested the hypothesis that the structure of plant-herbivore networks differs between guilds of galling, sucking, and chewing insects.2. Six areas of Neotropical savannas were studied in two localities in the North of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. In each area, interactions between plant and insect species were used to build networks for different guilds.3. In total, 18 plant-herbivore networks were built, comprising 317 insect morphospecies, 50 plant species, and 489 distinct interactions. The networks were characterised using species richness and different network topological measures (connectance, modularity, nestedness, and specialisation).4. The results obtained showed no difference in species richness, network size, and connectance between distinct insect herbivore guilds. However, it was found that modularity was higher for exophagous than galling insect networks and nestedness was higher for chewers than for other guilds. On the other hand, galling insect networks showed higher specialisation than exophagous insect networks, and sucking insect networks were more specialised than chewing insect networks.5. The findings of the present study indicate that, although species richness did not differ between insect guilds of herbivores in Neotropical savannas, the topological structure of networks is sensitive to biological and ecological differences between these herbivore groups. The present study stands out as the first to systematically compare the network structure of different herbivore guilds in Neotropical savannas.

Floristic surveys are the basis of phytodiversity knowledge and when carried out in protected areas add value because they can generate incentives for conservation and subsidies for management plans. With the objective to contribute to flora knowledge in Piaui State, Brazil, a floristic study was developed in the riparian forest Uruçuí-Una Ecological Station. This station has a 135.122,29 ha area and is in Baixa Grande do Ribeiro municipality, Piauí, in Northeast of Brazil. The area is in Cerrado’s phytogeographical domain, with riparian forest along the river Uruçuí-Preto, which borders part of its area. The survey was conducted from samples collected of woody vascular plants in an area of approximately 4.5 ha on the left bank of Uruçuí-Preto River. The samples collected were properly herborized, taxonomically identified, and stored in herbaria Graziela Barroso (TEPB) and Delta do Parnaíba (HDELTA). The study resulted in 90 species, 71 genus, and 37 families. Except for Tilesia baccata species, Asteraceae naturalized, all species are native to Brazil, and 21.50% are also endemic in Brazil and 6.45% endemic in Cerrado. Most species, i.e 78.49% were not evaluated for the extinction risk, while 15.05% are classified in the Little Worrying category and only, Bowdichia virgilioides is in the condition of Near Threatened. This study contributes significantly to the scientific literature as it is the second floristic survey presented for this conservation unit since 1984, and the first study carried out in the riparian forest in this protected area of the Brazilian Cerrado.

Fimicolous organisms are those that can grow on dung. These substrates offer conditions that favour colonization by microorganisms, such as high nutrient and moisture content and an alkaline-neutral pH that is especially advantageous in arid/desertic regions. There are about 250 species of myxomycetes known from Brazil, which are distributed in all geographic regions and biomes, obtained mainly from plant-derived substrates. However, there are some reports of fimicolous myxomycetes in Brazil. In this study, we expand this knowledge with new records of fimicolous myxomycetes in multiple Brazilian biomes. Between 2017 and 2018, horse and cattle dung samples were collected in municipal areas in the State of Goiás (Cerrado biome): Pirenópolis, Goiás, and Porangatu; and the State of Mato Grosso (Pantanal biome): Poconé. Samples were incubated in moist chambers and monitored for four months. Myxomycetous fructifications were observed, photographed under stereo and light microscopes, and morphologically identified. Vouchers were deposited at the HUEG Herbarium. A total of five species of myxomycetes were recorded: Arcyria cinerea and Physarum viride (Pirenópolis), P. cinereum (Goiás City), P. melleum (Porangatu), and Perichaena corticalis (Poconé). They represent the first records of fimicolous myxomycetes from the Brazilian Cerrado and Pantanal biomes. Additionally, P. melleum was reported as fimicolous for the first time in Brazil and the second time in the world; P. corticalis was reported for the first time in midwest region as well as for the first time as fimicolous in Brazil; and P. viride was reported for the first time as fimicolous in the world.
