DIURETIC ACTIVITY OF MATOA LEAVES EXTRACTS (Pometiapinnata) AND ITS INFLUENCE ON POTASSIUM AND SODIUM LEVELS

Abstract: Objective: The goal of this research were to determine diuretic activity of matoa leaves (Pometia pinnata J.R. Forster & J.G Forster) extracts and fractions and its influence on potassium and sodium levels. Methods: Matoa leaves were extracted by reflux method followed by evaporation using rotary evaporator. The subjects were male Wistar rats that were divided into 11 groups: Furosemide (3.6 mg/kg bw); control group carboxymethylcellulose 0.5%; matoa leaves extracts with doses of 50 mg/kg bw, 100 mg/kg bw, and … Show more

“…gave the highest sodium levels which were not significantly different compared to furosemide, while the other groups had a significant difference with furosemide (p<0.05). The potassium levels in all of extracts sample had no significant difference with furosemide [10]. Therefore, this is big opportunity to find a new antihypertensive medicine which safe, effective, and high quality.…”

“…Group I : Negative control group was given 1% Na-CMC Group II : Positive control group received furosemide at a dose of 5.2 mg/kg BW Group III : Ethanol extract of green tea leaves at a dose of 70 mg/kg BW Group IV : Infusion of green tea leaves at a dose of 70 mg/kg BW The test animals were acclimatized for seven days in laboratory conditions, then fasted for 12 hours from food but still given access to water until two hours before receiving the treatment. Afterward, they were weighed and given warm water orally as much as 0.4 ml/20g BW (Purwidyaningrum et al, 2016). In Hour 0, all groups received their respective treatment orally.…”
