“…There is little information for diversity and species richness of carabids in Brazilian agroecosystems. In the north‐east region of São Paulo, Cividanes and dos Santos‐Cividanes () observed 23 carabid species in soybean/corn crop under a CTS, and Cividanes et al () found 22 species and the Shannon's diversity index ( H ′ = 0.900) for carabids in an orange orchard with soil covered with spontaneous vegetation composed mainly of grasses. Such values are close to those from the present study for soybean/corn crop in Jaboticabal‐NTS and Guaíra‐NTS (Table ).…”

“…The majority of studies on carabids in agroecosystems are related to species from temperate regions, with very little information available for Neotropical species. Studies on carabids in Brazilian agroecosystems are related to population survey (Thomazini ; Specht & Corseuil ; Lacerda et al ; Auad & Carvalho ), effects of intercropping and no‐tillage systems (Cividanes & Barbosa ; Seffrin et al ) and species diversity and distribution in orange orchard adjacent to forest fragment (Cividanes et al ). There is also information on carabids in Pinus and Eucalyptus plantations and degraded area by soil use (Fagundes et al ; Moraes et al ).…”

“…1 than site No. 2, this could be related to the forest canopy cover [Magura et al, 2002;Cividanes et al, 2010], organic matter [Jukes et al, 2001;Magura et al, 2002], leaf litter [Magura et al, 2002] and anthropogenic disturbances [Thomas et al, 2002].…”

“…Both adult and larval stages of these species are polyphagous and have been recorded feeding on a wide variety of cultivated plants and weeds (Chadwick, 1965;Lanteri et al, 2002;Masaki and Kadoi, 1997). Most citrus orchards in Brazil have conducted careless weed suppression, resulting in soils covered with grasses and surrounding vegetation (Cividanes et al, 2010), which may show differences to the citrus fruits. Brazilian entomologists have investigated the influence of such scenario on the feeding behavior of both species.…”
