Distributed generation integrated with thermal unit commitment considering demand response for energy storage optimization of smart grid

Abstract: a b s t r a c tThis paper deals with an optimal battery energy storage capacity for the smart grid operation. Distributed renewable generator and conventional thermal generator are considered as the power generation sources for the smart grid. Usually, a battery energy storage system (BESS) is used to satisfy the transmission constraints but installation cost of battery energy storage is very high. Sometimes, it is not possible to install a large capacity of the BESS. On the other hand, the competition of the … Show more

“…Figure 4 gives these facts clearly [128]. The power system is integrated to provide low energy loss and high efficiency, so with this technology, the gap of the supply/demand is reduce and the power of the control system is increased; For example, home or office grid integration to generate energy by some local renewable energy sources [129][130][131][132][133].…”

“…A thermal unit's commitment program considers the DR system to satisfy the transmission constraints and thereby reduce the battery energy storage system capacity. 44 The controllable loads of the smart houses in the demand side are utilized to satisfy the transmission constraints. Electric thermal storage (ETS) can be used to alter electric heating demand without affecting comfort.…”
