Distribuição altitudinal e sazonal de afídeos (Hemiptera, Aphididae) na Serra do Mar, Paraná, Brasil

Abstract: ABSTRACT. There are about 130 species of aphids registered for Brazil and most of them are exotic, originated from temperate regions. The objective of this research was to survey the aphid species that occur in different altitudes in the rich and diverse ecosystem of the Atlantic Rain Forest. The area surveyed included 11 collecting points ranging from -10 to 1000 m a.s.l. in Serra do Mar, in Paraná State, using yellow pan traps and plant collection, during one year. A total of 87 aphid species were collected … Show more

“…Regarding the faunal analysis, similar results were found by Lazzari and Lazzarotto (2005), who colleted in Serra do Mar 8,134 specimens and identified 87 species of aphids, using Möericke traps. The diversity and abundance of aphids trapped may be explained by trap C (%) = (nasp*100)/na, in which nasp = number of samples with the species occurrence and na = total number of samples.…”

“…Currently, it has been found in various South American countries such as Bolivia (Timmer et al, 1981), Peru (Roistacher, 1988), Uruguay, Chile, and Colombia, besides Brazil (Rocha-Peña et al, 1995). There are records of T. citricidus even in forest regions, as the Peruvian Amazon (Ortiz, 1981), and the Atlantic Forest (Lazzari and Lazzarotto, 2005).…”

“…Mutualism has many times been defined as an interaction between two mutually benefic species (Krohne, 1998;Begon et al, 1999). For a long time the ant-hemiptera interaction has been used as an example of a mutualistic relationship.…”

“…Several studies were recently started on mountains, since differing altitudes can simulate a gradient of environmental conditions similar to increasing latitude but within a small geographical range (Hodkinson 2005), thereby facilitating ecological research. Distribution and population fluctuations of phytophagous insects on mountains depend on a sum of factors such as thermal requirements for growth, temperature tolerance, dispersal ability, host plant quality and distribution, phenological synchrony with host plants, and interactions with competitors, parasites and predators (Alonso 1999, Obermaier and Zwolfer 1999, Lazzari and Lazzarotto 2005, references in Hodkinson 2005, Merrill et al 2008). …”
