Distance-based microfluidic quantitative detection methods for point-of-care testing

Abstract: Equipment-free devices with quantitative readout are of great significance to point-of-care testing (POCT), which provides real-time readout to users and is especially important in low-resource settings. Among various equipment-free approaches, distance-based visual quantitative detection methods rely on reading the visual signal length for corresponding target concentrations, thus eliminating the need for sophisticated instruments. The distance-based methods are low-cost, user-friendly and can be integrated i… Show more

“…Owing to the advantages over laboratory-based diagnostics, POC diagnostics are used for the prevention and control of infectious diseases and monitoring of health conditions in non-laboratory settings, where well-trained technicians and sophisticated laboratory infrastructure are not available [5, 6]. For example, paper-based POC diagnostics such as glucose strips or pregnancy tests can be used by end-users at home, without requiring formal training.…”

“…In this work, the non‐carcinogenic 3,3’,5,5’‐tetramethyl benzidine (TMB)‐H 2 O 2 was used as chromogenic substance for CEA detection by distance‐based measurement (Figure ). The readout was quantitative, which could be viewed by naked eye and the length of the color band was proportional to analyte concentrations . Two PADs were separately prepared for immunoassay and for distance‐based detection.…”
