BACKGROUND: Specialist trauma nurses contribute to shortening hospital stay, lowering intensive care unit readmission rates, and improving treatment outcomes through early detection and management of health problems in trauma patients. However, Korean specialist trauma nurses have a higher turnover rate than other nurses due to negative factors like unclear job descriptions and inconsistent job activities. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the levels of and relationships among role conflict, occupational stress, perceived organizational support, and intent to stay in Korean specialist trauma nurses. METHODS: We enrolled 53 specialist trauma nurses from eight regional trauma centers in Korea. Data on role conflict, occupational stress, perceived organizational support, and intent to stay were collected using a structured questionnaire. Mann–Whitney U test, Kruskal–Wallis test, and Bonferroni post hoc tests were conducted to examine differences in intent to stay. Spearman's correlation coefficients were used to examine correlations between the key variables. RESULTS: High intent to stay was associated with periodic job training, job satisfaction, and perceived high workload. Role conflict was positively correlated with occupational stress, whereas both were negatively correlated with perceived organizational support. Intent to stay was negatively correlated with occupational stress and positively correlated with perceived organizational support. CONCLUSIONS: Effective improvement measures that lower occupational stress and increase perceived organizational support will help maintain the positions of specialist trauma nurses. These results highlight the need to specify the scope of practice and implement practical measures like career development programs that enhance professional nursing competencies to retain specialist trauma nurses.

Increased accountability requirements for the cost and quality of healthcare force nurses to clearly define and verify nursing's contributions to patient outcomes. This demand necessitates documentation of nursing care in a precise manner. An electronic nursing record system is considered a key element that enhances nurses' ability not only to record nursing care provided to patients but also to measure, report, and monitor quality and effectiveness. Home care is a growing field as nurses attempt to meet the demand for long-term care. The development of an electronic record system for home care nursing was the immediate focus of this study. We identified the nursing content required for home care nursing using standardized nursing languages and designed linkages among medical diagnoses, nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and nursing-sensitive outcomes within the system. Equipping an electronic nursing record system with nursing standards is particularly critical for enhancing nursing practice and for creating refined data to verify nursing effectiveness.

PURPOSE: This study was aimed at investigating the types of gender roles and the relationship between gender roles and job satisfaction among neurological physical therapists. METHODS: The study subjects were 169 (male 74, female 95) neurological physical therapists working at general hospitals or rehabilitation centers in the Daejeon Metropolitan City area, South Korea. To identify job satisfaction scores, the subjects completed a questionnaire, and a vernier caliper was used by a trained examiner to measure the lengths of the subjects' index and ring fingers (i.e., digitus secundus manus and digitus annularis, respectively) to examine gender roles. The index to ring finger length ratio (i.e., 2D:4D ratio) was calculated using a personal computer. An independent t-test was performed to compare the finger length ratio and job satisfaction of male group with that of the female group and a correlation analysis was performed to examine job satisfaction by gender roles.
