Digging more deeply into the verrucosa-group of the genus Alona (Anomopoda, Chydoridae): Alona mediterranea new species from the Mediterranean part of Anatolia (Turkey)

Abstract: A new species, Alona mediterranea is described 4 ) and illustrated based on specimens from the western part of Mediterranean Anatolia (Turkey). The new species belongs to the verrucosa species-group of the genus Alona by the presence two semi-circles of lateral head pores. The diagnosis is based on 25 characters that are either newly described, or have been widely used in descriptions/diagnoses of the species group in previous studies.
