Diffusion and Bonding Mechanism of Protective γ-Al2O3on FeCrAl Foil for Metallic Three-Way Catalytic Converter

Abstract: Abstract. High pollutant level contributed by mobile sources/land transportation that become main problems for the human health. Improving exhaust emission system by improving catalytic converter properties is one of the most effective way to produce healthy air in our environment. It is conducted by two methods i.e. ultrasonic during electroplating (UBDEL) and electroplating process (EL) which are not fully investigated yet as catalytic converter coating process. UBDEL is conducted using sulphamate types elec… Show more

“…The final material had a homogeneous layer of alumina with higher superficial roughness. 194 The mass of a FeCrAl monolith support after three 20 h cycles in a furnace at 1 100 °C changed marginally, indicating that it is resistant toward support oxidation. Combined coating and electroplating in the catalyst preparation performed best.…”

“…Al 2 O 3 deposited at the same time as the electroplating because an ultrasonic bath effectively replaces a magnetic impeller. “…3 shows that coated FeCrAl has lower FC and higher torque as compared to ceramic and metallic CATCO. It caused by FeCrAl CATCO more consists of open area, and the hole dimension is higher than conventional ceramic and metallic CATCO (Feriyanto et al, 2017) which led to a laminar flow of exhaust gas from the engine. That flow caused higher engine performance (torque) and decreased FC.…”

“…The main problem in the conventional CATCO is its effect on the degradation performance of the engine, and it caused high exhaust gas temperature performed. Therefore, based on previous research by Feriyanto et al, (2017) that have been developed FeCrAl CATCO. It was very challenging to investigate the comparison between conventional CATCO with FeCrAl CATCO in terms of engine performance and exhaust gas temperature.…”
