“…The possibility exists, however, that most, but not all IgA cells, return to the IFA through the cytoplasm or the intercellular spaces of the endothelial cells of the HEV. The following data support this possibility: the presence of IgA proplasma cells around the HEV but not around the lymphatic capillaries in the IFA described in this study, the presence of IgA-containing cells in the HEV of mouse PP reported by Kimura et al (8) and the presence in mouse mesenteric lymph nodes of radiolabeled PP blasts injected intravenously as reported by Roux et al (12).…”

“…Using various methods several authors have attempted to elucidate the traffic pathway for recirculating lymphocytes in PP: immunohistochemical studies of frozen or paraffin sections (13), combined immunohistochemical and autoradiographic studies of the same types of sections (12), analysis of lymph and blood collected by cannulation of mesenteric lymphatic and blood capillaries with a fluorescnece activated cell sorter (16) and the immunoelectron microscopic method described in this paper. The first immunohistochemical method is the best for showing the distribution of lymphocyte subpopulations in PP, but it is difficult to estimate their numbers in thick sections and to distinguish between lymphatic and blood capillaries on the light microscopic level (11).…”

“…Animal studies clearly demonstrate that B cells from Peyer's patches migrate specifically to the lactating mammary gland (33)(34)(35)(36) and that pregnancy increases the mucosal vascular addressin MadCAM-1, which interacts with the gut homing receptor ␣ 4 ␤ 7 (37). In humans, oral immunization with nonpathogenic Escherichia coli, produces type-specific IgA in breast milk but not in serum or saliva of lactating women, suggesting trafficking between breast and blood (38).…”

“…The lamina propria also contains a significant number of B cells which in the GI tract serve as an important source of IgA production. Secretory IgA produced by these B cells is present in the intestinal lumen and binds to food proteins, preventing absorption by the gut epithelium and possible reactivity [4]. & One of the most important cells for generating tolerance to ingested food proteins is the dendritic cell (DC) [5].…”
