Differential expression of angiogenesis-related miRNAs and VEGFA in cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Introduction: Liver cirrhosis (LC) is a heterogeneous liver disease, the last stage of liver fibrosis, and the major risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our study aimed to evaluate the expression of microRNAs and the endothelial vascular growth factor (VEGFA) gene in LC and HCC. Material and methods: The sample group consisted of 46 tissue samples: 21 of LC, 15 of HCC, and 10 of non-tumoural and non-cirrhotic liver tissue (control group). MiRNAs were chosen based on a mirDIP prediction database as … Show more

“…We detected and validated downregulation of miR-1255b-5p in TAs of severe BPD infants. This miRNA was previously noted to regulate vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) expression in liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma [63]. Abnormal VEGF and disrupted angiogenesis are described in lung tissues of infants that died of severe BPD [64].…”

“…Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an essential angiogenic growth factor in physiological and pathological states. High expression of VEGFA is detected in a large number of solid tumors, including HCC [32,33] . It is involved in the regulation of metastasis of many solid tumors and their neovasculature [14,34] .…”
