Diferencias de género en la percepción del logro profesional en especialistas de medicina familiar y comunitaria

Abstract: There are similarities and differences between female and male physicians both in the understanding and the attributions of achievement. The differences are explained by the gender system. The perception of achievement of the female physicians questions the dominant professional culture and incorporates new values in defining achievement. The attributions reflect the unequal impact of family and organizational variables and suggest that the female physicians would be changing gender socialization.

The influence of age varies widely, with many studies showing significant differences in satisfaction related to age (2)(3)(5)(6)8,13) .…”

“…One study attempted to explain the higher job satisfaction of women compared to men by proposing that women have lower expectations for their jobs, thereby implying that women are happier than men because men have job-related expectations that are more demanding and more difficult to achieve (15) . This theory relies on obvious genderrelated differences (2)(3)8,(11)(12)(16)(17) . However, interpreting the results of these past studies is challenging because there are discrepancies with other studies.…”

“…This has been attributed to the effects of gender socialization, leading women to be satisfied with a lower level of professional success (Kirchmeyer, 1998), to have lower expectations, and to give lesser importance to their development (Nabi, 2000). Various authors have reported that women define success as a function of the quality of their social relationships and the balance between their work life and family life, whereas men define it according to material results, especially income (Dyke & Murphy, 2006;Markus, 1990;Saletti-Cuesta, Delgado, Ortiz-Gómez, & López-Fernández, 2013). Some authors (Markus, 1990;Riska, 2001) have claimed that this socialization theory is reductionist and fails to criticize the structure of organizations or existing career contents and models.…”

“…Logro profesional: Se seleccionaron personas destacadas de la región, que han alcanzado un nivel alto de logro profesional. Dicho logro, que está afectado por el contexto socio-cultural, viene determinado por la suma de resultados positivos del trabajo y de la vida personal, y están relacionados con la experiencia profesional del individuo en cualquier momento de su carrera (Saletti-Cuesta et al, 2013).…”
