“…Their action can have an impact on reducing the discharge of cortisol in a group of physically active people [79][80][81]. It has been shown that a 4-week supplementation with a standardized extract from roots of Eurycoma longifolia ("Malaysian ginseng") influences favorably on hormonal profile of respondents of both sexes.…”

“…They have long been used in the treatment of long-term illness and weakness in people in Tibet for over 1000 years. Recent pharmacological studies have shown that Rhodiola possesses many health benefits such as ability to reduce fatigue13, is cytoprotective14, is anti-oxidative and can mitigate free radicals1415, has immunomodulating properties1617, is anti-hypoxia18 and can prevent altitude sickness12. Nevertheless, Rhodiola as an adaptogen has not been used in broilers raised in a hypoxic environment.…”

“…It is likely that a mediator other than total RBC number and oxygen consumption had a role in the further prolonged exhaustive run time by RC supplement after altitude training. Another possibility could be that potential effects of RC supplement on oxygen consumption were masked by high altitude exercise training in compared with the findings by Zhang et al (2009) at sea level, because high altitude training per se is an effective factor to markedly promote erythropoiesis and oxygen consumption (Gore et al, 2013).…”

“…Rhodiola (Abidov et al, 2003;De Bock et al, 2004;Lee et al, 2009;Zhang et al, 2009;Parisi et al, 2010) and Cordyceps Chiou et al, 2000;Koh et al, 2003) supplements have been documented to enhance endurance exercise capacity, blood oxygen carrying capability, and/or antioxidant capacity. To date, the underlying mechanisms for the benefits of RC supplement on aerobic exercise capacity during high altitude training are not fully understood.…”
