“…A capacidade do peixe em acumular selênio nos tecidos pode tornar a carne de pescado um interessante alimento funcional para a nutrição humana, especialmente como boa fonte de selênio (COTTER et al,2008). Em estudo realizado por Lee et al (2016) avaliando a exigência e toxicidade de selênio na dieta em juvenis de tilápia-do-Nilo O. niloticus usando como fonte orgânica a selenometionina e utilizando os seguintes níveis crescentes de selênio 0,30; 0,55; 0,73; 0,82; 1,04; 2,06; 2,95; 6,31 e 14,7 mg de Se/kg, observaram que o crescimento aumentou até 2,06 de inclusão de Se na dieta, após este nível de inclusão houve um decréscimo gradual no crescimento. Dessa forma, observa-se que a tilápia possui um requisito específico de Se, que não pode ser atendido por alimentações regulares ou pelo meio aquático.…”
