durch die Solvolysegeschwindigkeiten von ( 5 ) und die Produktanalyse gezeigt wird. Die Solvolysekinetik von (5) wurde in 50-und 80-proz. Athanol bei mehreren Temperaturen und pH-Werten bestimmt (Tabelle I)[']]. Bei den Solvolysen entstand als Hauptprodukt (> 80%) Dicyclopropylketon (7). Tabelle I. Solvolysegeschwindigkeit von (5) in waBrigem Athanol Zur Darstellung von (I-Brom-I-cyclopropylmethy1en)cyclopropan (-5) wurde (I-Brommethy1en)cyclopropan (8a) [51 mit Cyclopropylmagnesiumbromid in THF in Gegenwart von FeCI,[*] zum Kohlenwasserstoff ( 9) gekuppelt und dieser in Pentan bei -70°C bromiert. Das dabei entstehende Dibromid (10) wurde ohne weitere Reinigung rnit Kalium-tert.-butanolat in Dimethylsulfoxid zu (5) umgesetzt, das durch praparative Gaschromatographie isoliert wurde. NMR (CCI,) : t = 8.30 (1 H/m, tert. Versuche zur quantitativen Erfassung polarer Substituenteneffekte bei organischen Reaktionen durch ,,induktive Substituentenkonstanten" griinden auf der Annahme, daD diese Effekte von der Art der beobachteten Reaktion unabhangig seien. Wie Messungen der Geschwindigkeitskonstanten von nucleophilen Substitutionsreaktionen zeigen, gilt diese Annahme auch bei gesattigten Molekiilen nur bedingt. Sie versagt, wenn der Substituent ein Elektronendonor, das Reaktionszentrum ein Elektronenacceptor ist und beide iiber a-Bindungen hyperkonjugiert sind. lm Extremfall kann die Polarisierung zu heterolytischer Fragmentierung fuhren. Einf&rungDie iibliche Beschreibung organischer Verbindungen mit Symbolen wie ROH, RCHO oder RCOOH impliziert, daD chemische Veranderungen an den funktionellen Gruppen, hier also an der Hydroxyl-, Formyl-bzw. Carboxylgruppe stattfinden, der Rest des Molekiils sich dagegen nicht beteiligt.

of ( 8 u ) affords exclusively the rearranged cyclobutanone[51, the main product in our case is dicyclopropyl ketone (7). (10) BrFor preparation of (1-bromo-1 -cyclopropylmethylene)cyclopropane (5), ( 1 -bromomethylene)cyclopropane (8u)['I was coupled with cyclopropylmagnesium bromide in T H F in the presence of FeC13[R', yielding the hydrocarbon ( 9 ) which was then brominated in pentane at -70°C. The resulting dibromide ( 1 0 ) was allowed to react with potassium tert-butoxide in dimethyl sulfoxide without further purification and the product (5) was isolated by preparative gas chromatography. NMR (CCI,): t=8.30 (1 Him, tertiary H); 8.72 (4H/AABB, methylenecyclopropane ringprotons); 9.12 (4 H/m, cyclopropyl protons); IR (film):1760 cm-' (exo-methylenecyclopropane double bond); mass spectrum: m/e= 172, 174.

Abstract: Suninzavy. The syntheses of 4-methyl-, 4-ethyl-, 4-isopropyl-and 4-t-butylquinuclidine arc dcscribed. The key step in the synthesis of 4-t-butylquinuclidinc involves a modified Koch-Huuf reaction leading from a 6-amino-tert. alcohol t o an ester of the homologous acid.
