“…A single study conducted in Northern Ethiopia found that 37.6% of type 2 diabetic patients had high DRD. 16 Although burden of illness is a key contributor to DRD, presence of diabetes complications, co-morbid medical conditions, and more intensive treatment have been associated with increased DRD. 17,18 Studies illustrated that younger age, lower level of education, longer duration of diabetes, use of insulin injection, and higher HbA1c were factors strongly associated with higher DRD in the cross-sectional analyses.…”

“…But there is a strong appreciation that in addition to physical and biological aspects of illness there are also psychological grounds to be considered to understand the health conditions of patients. 18 To put it in another way, physical failures are the keystones to understand health problems rather than the starting and the ending point to understand the health of an individual 19 so that the psychological aspects have to be considered to get a full picture of the illness. That is, the wax and the wane of diabetic disease course are, not only physiological changes that need to be considered rather there should be a psychological aspect.…”

“…As noted, very little has been written on T1D in LICs, but studies of T2D have highlighted depression, stigma and diabetes distress or burnout. [20][21][22][23][24] Despite the implications for T1D management, very little has been written on techniques for insulin storage in hot countries with low levels of refrigeration. Ogle et al did a thorough analysis of 12 traditional techniques of refrigeration from seven countries, including goat skins and clay pots, with varying levels of effectiveness, although none were included that were reported in this study.…”
