Developments of Coal-Fired Power Plants : Microscopy Study of Fe-Ni Based Heat-Resistant Alloy for Efficiency Improvement

Abstract: Anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases are one of the possible reasons for the global warming. Coal consumption is predicted to be increased over several decades due to increasing demands in some countries. In the medium-term energy strategy, coal-fired power plants thus need to be developed. For this purpose, developments of new heat-resistant alloys that can stand severe steam conditions in advanced power plants are essential. A potential alloy was studied, which revealed that hardness of the alloy is r… Show more

“…Combustion of fuel produced high exhaust emission especially CO 2 gases which increased pollutant concentration in air. Coal contributed 44% of total global CO 2 emissions and became the largest source of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions 3) such as carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), methane (CH 4 ), nitrous oxide (N 2 O), ozone (O 3 ), and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) 27) . To reduce these pollutants, it is very important to increase energy efficiency in coal-fired power plants 4) .…”

“…The emissions of Carbon Dioxide from burning fossil fuel have reached such an alarming rate, resulting in worldwide impact, the need for an effective method for reducing the amount of CO2 emission has never been this high 1,2) . In 2011, globally averaged atmospheric CO2 at Earth's surface reached 390.4 ppm surpassing 390 ppm limit for the first time.…”

“…Indonesia has an abundance of geothermal energy sources, which are spread along a volcanic path on the "Ring of fire" [1][2] . Increasing threat posed by global warming and climate change has drawn the attention of global researchers and decision makers to renewable energy, contextually geothermal energy, as potential remedy 3) . Contrary, Indonesia heavily relies on nonrenewable energy such as oil and coal, as its key energy source 4) .…”
