Development of the Bicycle Constraints Scale: Validity and reliability study<p>Bisiklet Engelleri Ölçeği’nin geliştirilmesi: Geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to develop the "Bicycle Handicap Scale (BHS)" and to test the validity of the scale to demonstrate the obstacles bicyclists encounter. 292 bicycle riders cycling in Eskisehir and Ankara for various purposes for transportation or recr 6 eational purposes in their daily life were participated voluntarily. Explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed in order to ensure the validity of the BEÖ structure. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, a 5-dimensional stru… Show more

“…Higher scores taken from the scale indicate higher levels of optimism. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated to be .96 for the whole scale (Balcı & Yılmaz, 2002). In order to test the usability of OS in the current study, CFA was used to check the construct validity and Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient analysis was used to determine its reliability.…”

“…Ahlport, Linnan, Vaughn, Evenson, and Ward (2008) state that family, environmental factors and personal characteristics are constraints to bicycle use. In this study, the constraints related to bicycle use, taking into account the work of Balci, Ozbek, Kocak, and Ceyiz (2017), investigated in five dimensions: individual, laws and regulations, socio-cultural, physical and economic and infrastructure.…”

“…Participants were asked to respond using a 5-point Likert scale (1=Strongly disagree, …, 5=Strongly agree). A high score from the subscales of BOS indicates that an individual is more likely to discontinue cycling (Balci et al, 2017).…”
