Development of Glassy Carbon Electrode Modified with Ruthenium Red-multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes for Simultaneous Determination of Epinephrine and Acetaminophen

Abstract: A glassy carbon electrode modified with ruthenium red and functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube has been developed. The electrochemical response characteristics of the modified electrode toward epinephrine (EP) and acetaminophen (AC) was investigated by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Linear calibration plots were obtained over the range of 0.3 -333.3 μM for both EP and AC with sensitivities of 0.221 and 0.174 μA μM -1 for EP and AC, respectively. The detection limits for EP and AC were 0.04 and 0.… Show more

“…EP acts as a cellular chemical messenger 11 , and many diseases are related to the change of its concentration. It is a hormone synthesized by the adrenal medulla of the adrenal glands 12 13 14 , it stimulates a series of actions of the sympathetic nervous system called “fight or flight” response 15 . EP controls the performance of the nervous system, and its abnormal levels affect the regulation of the blood pressure heart rate, and glycogen metabolism 8 16 .…”

“…Nowadays, chemically and physically-modified electrodes are used to meet these demands. They include multi-walled carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (MWCNTs/ GCE), 9 nano-TiO2/polymer coated GCE, 10 Ruthenium RedMWCNTs modified GCE 11 and gold nanoparticles modified carbon paste electrode. 12 Carbon materials are widely used in electroanalysis due to their considerable electrocatalytic activity.…”
