Developing a novel psychographic-behavioral qualitative mapping method for exergames

Abstract: Location-based augmented reality games, used in several smartphone devices, have the potential to improve health outcomes by transforming gaming from a sedentary leisure pursuit to an active leisure pursuit thus having positive physical, psychological and social implications. We consider two games, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Pokémon GO, by qualitatively mapping both psychographic and behavioral data to profile groups of players to fully understand how we can better design location-based augmented reality … Show more

“…RHIP is a rapid qualitative data collection tool comprising 16 questions (Bierbaum et al, 2020; Rapport, Francis-Auton, et al, 2020; Smith et al, 2021). RHIPs are designed to encourage expansive answers from proforma participants (Table 2).…”

“…For example, these studies applied static interviews and lengthy transcription and analysis procedures to make sense of data (Best et al, 2021(Best et al, , 2022McGill et al, 2020;Zebrowski et al, 2019). The online proforma (Smith et al, 2021), called the Rapid Health Implementation Proforma (RHIP is described in detail later, see Method section), is a candidate for rapidly resolving timeliness issues that influence the utility of research and evaluation findings within healthcare (Nunns, 2009). Responding to the call for rapid qualitative data collection (Smith, 2022;Vindrola-Padros, 2021;Vindrola-Padros et al, 2020), the online proforma takes the form of an open-ended, text-box survey that can inform decision-making around intervention optimisation (Smith et al, 2021).…”

“…Similar to semistructured interviews, qualitative proforma surveys, which contain free-text boxes for participant answers to set interview schedule questions, provide participants with an opportunity to present opinions and experiences in considerable detail. 40 The NGT will involve the expert examination, appraisal and ranking of QIs drawn from the literature and from interviews or qualitative proforma survey completion, through a researcher-facilitated focus group and a subsequent scoring survey. The research study will take place from September 2021 to October 2022.…”

“…A mixed-methods study will involve (1) a scoping review of the available evidence on QIs in skin cancer management in primary care, (2) semistructured interviews or qualitative proforma surveys (including demographic questions) with participants representing skin cancer clinical professionals and clinic managers to identify key informants’ perspectives on QIs in primary care skin cancer management, and (3) a facilitated focus group with a select number of key informants from step 2 employing Nominal Group Technique (NGT). Similar to semistructured interviews, qualitative proforma surveys, which contain free-text boxes for participant answers to set interview schedule questions, provide participants with an opportunity to present opinions and experiences in considerable detail 40. The NGT will involve the expert examination, appraisal and ranking of QIs drawn from the literature and from interviews or qualitative proforma survey completion, through a researcher-facilitated focus group and a subsequent scoring survey.…”

“…Codes were further analysed using Sentiment Analysis (positive, negative, moderately positive, moderately negative). The "queries" function in NVivo generated counts of code incidences across factors and sentiments, leading to a matrix quantifying qualitative data, juxtaposing codes with sentiments, and grading content delivery (Smith et al, 2021b). The process was supported by researchers discussing data as the framework took shape.…”
