The Voices of Stakeholders Involved in Precision Medicine: The Co-Design and Evaluation of Qualitative Indicators of Intervention Acceptability, Fidelity and Context in PRecISion Medicine for Children With Cancer in Australia

Abstract: We report a novel approach of amalgamating implementation outcomes of acceptability and fidelity alongside context as a new way of qualitatively evaluating implementation outcomes and context of a precision medicine intervention. A rapid qualitative online proforma was co-designed with stakeholders and sent to a purposive sample of healthcare professionals involved in an early-phase clinical trial intervention. Data were analysed using Framework Analysis. A total of 24 out of 68 proformas were returned. Althou… Show more

“…Alternatively other a-priori codes (acceptability) were merged into new codes (acceptability was merged into 'Evaluate multiple aspects of feasibility). There was no attempt to capture data saturation in line with other research based on reflexive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2021), recognising our contribution is interpretative, and meaning is generated through the interpretation of data (Smith, Braithwaite, O'Brien, Smith, Tyrrell, et al, 2022;Smith, Braithwaite, O'Brien, Smith, Tyrell, et al, 2022).…”

“…Poor training or low competence of personnel may impact the results of the intervention (Chen et al, 2022;Tickle-Degnen, 2013). Further, management feasibility addresses staff time commitments, providing vital information for policy-makers when weighing up which interventions to consider for future research relevant for clinical practice, and this information could further contribute to understanding intervention fidelity (Smith, Braithwaite, O'Brien, Smith, Tyrell, et al, 2022).…”

“…Smith et al's work (2022) also highlighted the final theme regarding the importance of including people with lived experience in the research. The work also emphasizes the equity of the process: a reciprocal partnership that could benefit from each other in some way from co-design (Smith et al, 2022). The findings of the study may expand to other exemplars of co-designing environment, policy, and service delivery to improve accessibility, which leads to an enhanced health outcome.…”

“…This approach was the best option to collect rapid qualitative data before the interstate borders opened and not overburden parents. Proformas have been used successfully in other qualitative research 32,33 and are designed to encourage expansive answers from participants. 33 Interviews were also offered.…”
