“…Although it is not as universal as other detection systems, such as DAD and mass spectrometry, CL detection is rapidly growing and very attractive due to its high sensitivity, wide dynamic range and simple instrumentation. HPLC-CL is becoming a powerful analytical tool with widespread application in various fields, including the determination of pesticides, 18) drugs, [19][20][21] antioxidants 22) and others. 23,24) Considering the factors influencing the CL reaction, the pH of luminol solution and the concentrations of luminol and H 2 O 2 solutions in luminol-H 2 O 2 reaction are usually studied to obtain maximal enhanced CL intensity.…”

“…Various methods have been used for propylthiouracil quantification: HPLC-UV (LOQ 1.2 ng/mL, retention time 2.3 min, liquid-liquid extraction) in pharmaceutical formulations [2,10], HPLC-MS/MS (LOQ 0.5-2500 ng/mL, retention time 5.6-14 min, solid extraction, derivatization) in various animal matrices (urine, muscle, liver, thyroid, animal feed, feces and hair) [15,16] and HPLC-UV (LOQ 40-250 ng/mL, run time 3-8 min, liquid-liquid and solid extraction, 0.5-3 mL of matrix) in human plasma/serum [3,5,[12][13][14]. Our method has good sensitivity (LOQ of 20 ng/mL) for pharmacokinetic studies, with low plasma volume (0.1 mL), without derivatization, involving a very simple liquid-liquid extraction, and can be carried out in a short time (retention time 1.76 min and run time 2.5 min), permitting a higher throughput [3,5,[12][13][14].…”

“…Propylthiouracil (6-propyl-2-thiouracil), a drug of the thionamide class, which blocks thyroid hormone synthesis, is used for treating hyperthyroidism (adults, children and adolescents), hyperthyroidism in pregnancy and thyrotoxicosis [1][2][3][4].…”

“…Based on the sensitizing effect of formaldehyde on the CL reaction of propylthiouracil (PTU) and methylthiouracil (MTU) with acidic potassium permanganate, a HPLC-CL detection method has been proposed [90]. PTU and MTU are the drugs of thiouracil antithyroid family which block thyroid hormone synthesis, commonly used to treat hyperthyroidism in pregnancy and liver disease, but they have also been applied illegally to animals to obtain a higher live weight gain.…”
