“…Four sample-solvent ratios (1 : 15, 1 : 25, 1 : 35 and 1 : 60, w/v) were compared, and the sample-solvent ratio of 1 : 25 was chosen. Different ultrasonication times (15,30,40,45 and 60 min) were also compared. The results displayed that the extraction efficiency would no longer increase when the time of extraction was higher than 40 min.…”

“…14 In recent years, high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) has been routinely used to determine the contents of chemical compounds in traditional chemical materials and also applied in pharmacokinetic studies in rats and humans. 15,16 Moreover, it has been used to study drug metabolism, [17][18][19][20][21][22] toxicokinetics, 23,24 lipidomics, 25,26 proteomics 27,28 and metabolomics. 29,30 The main advantage of mass spectrometry (MS/MS) is the ability to detect a broad range of drugs with high sensitivity and specicity in a single analytical run.…”

“…The l—( +)—bornesitol is the main constituent of H. speciosa leaves extract (Endringer et al 2014 ) and is a potent inhibitor of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (Moreira et al 2020 ). Therefore, it is associated with an antihypertensive effect on the species (Moreira et al 2019 ).…”

“…We have demonstrated the antihypertensive properties of H. speciosa leaves by in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo assays (Serra et al 2005;Ferreira et al 2007aFerreira et al , 2007bSilva et al 2011Silva et al , 2016Endringer et al 2014;Moreira et al 2019), and these results led to a standardized extract enriched in cyclitols and flavonoids, which is intended to be developed as an herbal medicine to treat hypertension (Braga et al 2009). The cyclitol l-( +)-bornesitol ( 7) is the main hypotensive constituent of the standardized extract (Pereira et al 2012;Moreira et al 2019), and it presents favorable pharmacokinetics in rats (Moreira et al 2020). The leaves of "mangaba" are a renewable source for exploitation, containing high amounts of bornesitol, which was the first cyclitol described as a new class of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (Endringer et al 2014).…”
