Determinants of Sustainable Food Consumption: A Meta-Analysis Using a Traditional and a Structura Equation Modelling Approach

Abstract: Based on a database of 16 empirical studies, this MASEM study aims to provide an overview of existing antecedents of sustainable food consumption within an integrative framework based on the TPB. Among the antecedents, Personal Norm, Attitude and Subjective Norm displayed strongest effects on Intention, followed by Beliefs, Perceived Behavioral Control and Ethical Concern, which were also within the scope of medium to large. As for the correlations of Behavior, Personal Norm, Attitude and Subjective Norm showe… Show more

“…It has been widely utilized by many researchers on issues related to sustainable food choice behavior [28], sexual behaviors [29], water saving technology [30], smoking behavior [31], environmental knowledge and attitude [26], reducing energy consumption [32], and recycling [33]. Findings from these studies have supported the robustness of TPB constructs in predicting pro-environmental behavioral intention.…”

“…Ghani, Ab, Rusli, Biak, & Idris, 2013;Han & Hansen, 2012;Rekola, 2001). In terms of the specific behaviours analysed in this study, previous work such as Liebe et al (2011) studied the impact of environmental attitudes on pro-environmental behaviour in the case of both private and public goods in order to assess any potential differences.…”

“…TPB has been broadly used to identify determinants of environmental behaviours, such as buying green products (Ho, Liao, and Rosenthal 2014), recycling (Wan, Shen, and Yu 2014), purchasing eco-friendly phones (Paladino and Ng 2012), consuming sustainable food (Han and Hansen 2012) and saving household energy (Abrahamse and Steg 2009).…”
