Detection of ISAba1 in Acinetobacter baumannii Strains Carrying OXA Genes Isolated From Iranian Burns Patients

Abstract: Background: The presence of carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii has become a growing concern in patients who are hospitalized in burns centers. Objectives: The aims of this study were to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and prevalence of blaOXA carbapenemases, as well as to detect the presence of ISAba1, in A. baumannii strains carrying OXA genes obtained from burns patients at Shahid Motahari hospital, Tehran, Iran. Methods: From August 2013 to March 2014, 100 clinical A. bauman… Show more

“…[10] Another study from Iran by Mohammadi et al in 2016 confirmed that all isolated carbapenem-resistant strains of A. baumannii isolated from VAP had oxa-23 gene. [9] The results of these studies[191016] are similar to the recent research that confirmed the high prevalence of oxa-23 compared to other carbapenemase in carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii . The high rate of isolated XDR A. baumannii formVAP and burns is one of alarming result in this study.…”

“…Hence, infected patients with MDR and/or XDR strains of A. baumannii in VAP and burn patients can increase mortality and morbidity. [12389] The detection of MDR and/or XDR strains of A . baumannii is a crucial step for nosocomial infection committees to control infectious spread of such organism.…”

“…Moreover, Mohammadi et al reported similar results among hospitalized patients with burn infection in 2016 in Iran [32]. Therefore, it is not surprising that Chen et al in 2017 in China, Uwingabiye et al in 2017 in Morocco, and Nowak et al in 2017 in Greece, Italy, and Spain reported similar results in their investigations [33], [34], [35].…”
