Detection of cyclodiene pesticide residues in buffalo meat and effect of cooking on residual level of endosulfan

Abstract: Levels of cyclodiene pesticides (aldrin, α-endosulfan, β-endosulfan, endosulfan sulfate and heptachlor) residues in muscle, liver and kidney tissues of buffalo were estimated. The effects of common cooking methods (microwave cooking, boiling, broiling and pressure cooking) on the levels of endosulfan were determined. Aldrin and total endosulfan (α-endosulfan, β-endosulfan, endosulfan sulfate) residues were found in 42.86 and 64.29% of buffalo tissue samples, with overall mean residual concentration of 0.013 an… Show more

“…Although residual levels of pesticides in meat and meat products have been documented [68] , [62] , [56] , [59] , [105] , [36] , [97] , [5] , information concerning dietary intake of pesticide residues from meat are limited [76] . [24] estimated dietary intake of γ-HCH and ∑DDT from consumption of meat products (beef, pork, lamb, poultry, cured/processed meats) from different cities in Sweden to be 0.0828 and 0.00949 μg/kg bw/d respectively which were however higher than concentrations observed in this study.…”

“…Toxicokinetics of 14 C-endosulfan in rats was described by Chan et al 4 . Monitoring of the residue levels of insecticide revealed its accumulation in various tissues and fluids 5,6 . The commonest manifestations of endosulfan intoxication are neurological although other organ dysfunction also occurs 1 .…”

“…For removing lipids, C18 was shown to be effective in cereal grain and oil samples . Florisil usually functioned as packing material in column chromatography to remove fat in sample matrix . In this study, MWCNTs, C18, florisil, and anhydrous magnesium sulfate (MgSO 4 ) were packed in the dual‐layer m‐PFC column.…”
