“…However, its use in the direct analysis of plasma is controversial because of the presence of interfering substances, such as heme proteins, purines or pyrimidines in the UV region measurement [42,57]. Increased sensitivity of the method can be achieved by an extraction of lipids into organic solvents in combination HPLC with UV detection [34,58]. However, the result of application the method to lipid extracts from human body fluids after HPLC separation was surprising, because the majority of pre-treated lipid fraction absorbs at wavelengths typical for conjugated dienes consisting of conjugated linoleic acid isomer (cis-9, trans-11-octadecadienoic acid) [59].…”

“…The presence of these derivatives has been mentioned in the liver of different species such as the rat [16][17][18]21], lamb [19] and mouse [20]. Moreover, it has been recently demonstrated in the rat that the liver is able to convert rumenic acid into a conjugated derivative identified on the basis of its retention time as the cis-6, cis-9, trans-11 C18:3 [21].…”

“…In such situations, large amounts of FA, including CLA which are stored in adipose tissues, are released into the blood and taken up by the liver. The intensity of the different CLA metabolic pathways in the liver is still poorly documented except for the fact that in the liver of different species such as the rat [16][17][18], lamb [19] and mouse [20] given CLA-supplemented diets, CLA is converted into conjugated C18:3 by ∆6 desaturase activity [2,17]. Although these studies reported the presence of CLA derivatives in the liver of animals, only Gruffat et al [21] recently demonstrated, by using rat liver slices incubated with cis-9, trans-11 and trans-10, cis-12 CLA isomers, that CLA conversion into conjugated C18:3 actually occurs in this organ.…”

“…According to Banni et al (1995), Menendez et al (2005), among the monounsaturated fatty acids, oleic acid was the main one, which has as main effects, reducing the fraction of total cholesterol and cholesterol low density lipoprotein (LDLc) without reducing the fraction of high lipoprotein cholesterol density (HDLc). Furthermore, it causes changes in the platelet membrane producing an anti-thrombotic action Kobori and Jorge (2005) analyzing the orange seed oil extracted by hot solvent, found peroxide value of 29.4 meq/ kg.…”
