Detection and Quantification of Glycosylated Flavonoid Malonates in Celery, Chinese Celery, and Celery Seed by LC-DAD-ESI/MS

Abstract: A screening method using LC-DAD-ESI/MS was applied to the analysis of flavonoids in celery, Chinese celery, and celery seeds (Apium graveolens L. and varieties). Fifteen flavonoid glycosides were detected in the three celery materials. They were identified as luteolin 7-O-apiosylglucoside, luteolin 7-O-glucoside, apigenin 7-O-apiosylglucoside, chrysoeriol 7-O-apiosylglucoside, chrysoeriol 7-O-glucoside, and more than 10 malonyl derivatives of these glycosides. The identification of the malonyl derivatives was … Show more

“…Compounds 58, 60, 63 and 66 were suggested as luteolin-O-6′-malonyl-apiosylglycosides, showed by the acceptable data of MS, fragmentation pattern of MS/MS and the data obtained from literature (Katner, 2009;Lin, Lu, & Harnly, 2007).…”

“…(Galensa & Hermann, 1979;Garg, Gupt, & Sharma, 1980). Lin, Lu, and Harnly (2007) (2007) identified quercetin, kaempferol, luteolin, apigenin and chrysoeriol in lettuce cultivars. Recently, quercetin and luteolin rhamnosyl-hexosides were found in lettuce (Llorach, Martínez-Sánchez, Tomás-Barberán, Gil, & Ferreres, 2008).…”

“…In addition to the volatile oils, celery seeds extracted with aqueous methanol have shown the presence of a variety of celerioside glucosides and 3-phthalide glycosides (celephthalide A-C) along with some aromatic and lignan glucosides (Kitajima et al 2003;Lin et al 2007). …”
